Frequently Asked Questions

Replacing or repairing a roof is a significant investment. Most roofs will only be replaced once or twice in a lifetime so it’s not surprising that many people aren’t familiar with the process. We know you have questions, and we have answers! There is quite a bit more to roofing than we can cover in the Roofing FAQ’s that follow, but these are the roofing questions we’re asked most frequently.

The price of a new roof can vary dramatically. A roofing contractor will look at various factors to determine the price of a new roof, including materials used, and the size and slope of the roof. Other factors affecting the price of a new roof could be a need to replace flashing, repoint a chimney, repair gutters, or reseal skylights. Typically these things are usually noted right away by a roofing professional and can be addressed upfront.

When purchasing a new roof, price should not be the only consideration. Expert workmanship and the quality of the materials used should be balanced with price. Within the roofing profession, there are different levels of expertise and craftsmanship. A company that will stand behind the work they do will not always be the lowest bidder for your project.

Before hiring a roofing contractor, gather at least three estimates from reputable roofing contractors in your area. The National Roofing Contractors Association recommends checking that its workers are licensed and insured; request a copy of the roofer’s proof of insurance.

You don’t necessarily need to replace your entire roof if you have a bit of a leak. However, it’s important to point out that a small leak can very quickly escalate to a much larger problem. Early intervention can be the difference between repairing your roof and replacing your roof. If your roof has been properly installed and is younger than 15 years old, you may get by with roof repairs vs. a complete roof replacement. To determine the extent of the damage, contact a licensed roofing contractor to get an inspection.

If your gutters and downspouts are in good shape, we will work around them without having to remove them. If they are in need of repair or replacement, we do provide that service.

A properly maintained roof can last significantly longer than a neglected roof.  Many residential homeowners, as well as commercial building managers and owner, wait until obvious problems are Roofing crewapparent before conducting maintenance. This type of reactive maintenance will ultimately increase roof life-cycle costs. Spot repairs made during a proactive maintenance visit are far less costly than replacing membranes, insulation and decking if a leak occurs down the road. Proactive roof maintenance helps identify potential problem-causing areas, thus decreasing life-cycle costs.
